Place: Balai Tamu, UUM
The MoU covers collaboration on organising seminars, offering research grants and publishing journals, student and staff mobility programmes, academic staff development programmes, and the Visiting Professor Programme.
UUM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, and UMI, by its Rector, Prof. Dr. Hjh. Masrurah Mokhtar.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the collaboration was to further strengthen the relationship between UUM and UMI that had already been established through previous joint efforts between IPDM and UMI.
"Long before discussions were mooted on the present cooperative venture between our two institutions, there had been numerous instances of collaboration between UUM and UMI. Among these were the initiative that facilitated some UMI lecturers to further their studies at the doctoral level (PhD) at UUM. In addition, the IPDM also made an official visit to UMI towards the end of last year, "he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed his expectation of seeing more collaborative efforts coming forth through the signing of the MoU between the two parties.
"I hope that, through this partnership, more programmes centred on academic, research, and human capital development will be carried out for the mutual benefit of both institutions. I also expect many students and lecturers from UMI and Sulawesi, in general, to continue their studies at UUM," he added.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UMI, Prof. Dr. Hjh. Masrurah Mokhtar, said that, since its inception in 1954, UMI had always taken an interest in working together with universities outside of Indonesia so as to strengthen its international relations.
"This is in line with the import of Surah Al-Maidah, Chapter 5, verse 2, which enjoins us to work together in good faith for the general good and to avoid collaborating for negative purposes.
"Hence, I hope this cooperative venture will benefit both parties. UMI possesses expertise in economics, and we are the only university outside of Java that has a Faculty of Economics, in which there are three departments, namely, Economics and Development Studies, Management, and Accounting. UUM, of course, is well known for its expertise in the fields of business and management," she said.
Also present at the event were members of the University Management Committee (JPU), the Director of IPDM, Dr. Hj. Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri, and senior officers of UUM.
